Today I wish to dwell on giving back to society, which is essential because the scope of fulfilment surpasses personal accomplishments, strategic positioning and material accumulations, highlighting why community service matters for personal growth and societal progress.
Giving back entails channelling your essence to advance the cause of humanity and contributing your quota to better the lot of society and others. Your essence encompasses your ingenuity, time, skills, resources, and effort to improve the well-being and welfare of others and the community.
Why give back? Giving back to society is evidence of humanness and a testament to the humanity in all. It eminently expresses your gratitude for the opportunities you have received and communicates your resolve to an improved commonwealth.
Giving back is your personal attempt to address the grave imbalances and structural or systemic defects that require or demand personal and collaborative efforts to attenuate or ameliorate the apparent setbacks, inconveniences, inefficiencies, and disadvantages.
What can you give? As earlier established, you give what you have-your ingenuity, your time, skills, resources, and effort-and you can channel these through credible charitable endeavours, volunteering, mentoring, or supporting local events.
When? As soon as you find the opportunity that resonates with your intention or capacity.
As soon as you find a gap you can fill, it could be Philanthropy, Volunteering, Community Service, or Environmental work. It could also include supporting local events, mentoring, fundraising (making monetary donations), environmental cleanups, or supporting specific courses.
Philanthropy is about promoting the welfare of others, typically through generous donations or charitable efforts.
Community Service entails helping address needs and fostering a sense of responsibility and equity within communities by engaging in unpaid work to support community members.
Giving back will underscore your contribution to balance; it is your personal effort to dampen the effects of inequalities, inadequacies, and disadvantages.
Giving back builds your reputation for community involvement, creates a positive impact, helps you network, develop skills, and strengthen the community, making your contribution meaningful and rewarding.
Let’s agree that, whatever the scale of the need, there is an approach that enables your contribution and involvement in ways that optimise and improve what’s obtainable for the majority. If it is in the best interests of the community or society, it definitely advances your fulfilment.
