So you see, a job at all costs is not the solution you seek; as a job in itself will not necessarily guaranty self actualization, it will only improve the possibilities of self actualization. So to help with the job search, I make the following recommendations;
- Job seekers should Continuously modify their job search approach. They can attend job fairs in addition to online applications and physical distribution of their Curriculum Vitae. They can review and communicate the kind of jobs that meet their interest per time. Job seekers must make their profiles attractive to employers. Employers are constantly being inundated with countless CV’s. They will normally trim down the number of submitted documents by simply establishing very high selection criteria.
- During interviews, job seekers must sell themselves and mention their strengths and how they will add value to the organization. Their career objective on their CV should be something they can state by heart, not something gleaned off someone else’s CV (copy and paste).
- Job seekers should also consider a change of environment. Job seekers may have to relocate, even if it’s for a A change in location will always affect your perceptions. Moreover, familiar environments have a way of dulling ones sensitivity. So change your coordinates on the globe, it will surely do some good.
- Job seekers may also consider a change of routine. They can commit to a new hobby or vocation. They can also volunteer to an organization or an initiative with which you share values. As a volunteer, they should endeavor to spice every work moment with exceptionality and make certain to acquire skills that will give them the competitive edge.
- Job seekers should do something to take the mind off of job hunting. However, they need to be creative about this, by subscribing to initiatives that are convenient and inexpensive. It could be daily workouts or becoming a gym trainer or swimming instructor. If the job seeker has a vehicle they might want to consider registering vehicle on a ride sharing platform like Uber or Lyft, it would be interesting and profitable. A little bit of creativity will make a world of difference. Opportunities abound in daily routines, especially with electronic gadgets and internet access. The idea here is for them to channel their thoughts away from the situation at hand to some preoccupying and profitable engagement. The job seeker could re-evaluate their lifestyle and redefine their expectations. After all, it is said that necessity is the mother of inventions. Job seekers should also objectively re-evaluate relationships. They should go out more often and meet more people. While going out poses the challenge of having to reiterate the peculiarity of their joblessness, it also portends the broadening of their reach and the improvement of their prospects of gainful employment. There is nothing embarrassing about being a job seeker. So they should not withdraw from public sphere.
In all, Job seekers should consciously manage themselves and their situation by;
Taking responbility for their situation, freeing themselves from any remorse, inhibition or resentment they may feel towards themselve, and any entity they perceive should be instrumental, but is detrimental to their job search. In their hearts of hearts they should be devoid of misgivings. Sincerely, the buck passing especially towards the Government and its extensions, though profound will not delever the needed results. So they should channel their energy towards more beneficial outcomes.
-Job seekers must foolproof themselves, this is one of the most vulnerable periods of their lives, as such, they must protect themselves against deceit and unnecessary disappointments like misleading job openings that turn out to be nothing but a multi-level marketing seminar on a product that is not sellable. Where the promoters in addition to wasting your resources, will want to hard sell.
Job seekers must also be mindful of fraudulent recruiting companies and impostors who claim to be recruiters or staffers of an organization. They are only interested in deceiving and exploiting job seekers by requesting payment for fictitious job slots. Job seekers must rethink parting with their hard sought funds as incentives for a job. An ideal employer has a need and is searching for employers that can credibly contribute to meeting corporate gaols. Job seekers therefore have to objectively scrutinize job ads and solicitations, any ad that does not clearly state the recruiting companys name, location and vacant positions or does not adress you by name is suspect.
Save yourself the trouble by looking out for certain telltale signs;
- You did not apply for the job and nobody you know has informed you they did on your behalf.
- The company or agents is requesting for monetary incentive, under a phony guise.
- The company agent request hard copy CVs and application letters, for companies that have strong online presence and recruiting processes. Most companies now recruit online.
- No clear cut corporate presence and the venue of the interview is unsuitable for such exercises.
- They are not interested in testing you, they seem more interested in recruiting you. Recruitment is a delicate and painstaking process. It is usually not conducted in a haste.
Wherever, these are observed, there is very likely no good in sight.
Conclusively, job seekers must redefine objectives and stay upbeat for the long haul by maintaing the right mental psyche. A company out there is looking for them, it is only a matter of time.
